What are the delights of Dubrovnik?

Dubrovnik, also known as Ragusa, is a port and tourist city located in southern Dalmatia. It is the most visited city in Croatia due to its magnificent landscapes, unparalleled monuments and delicious Mediterranean cuisine. The Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the main destination for visitors to Dubrovnik. What attractions await you when you arrive in this Croatian city?

Dubrovnik – top tourist attractions

What delights tourists coming to Dubrovnik is the unique atmosphere of the city, which in a few moments takes you back to the past. All of this is due to the perfectly preserved medieval city walls, which, not without reason, have been repeatedly used as a setting in films. Dubrovnik can be seen, among others, in Game of Thrones – it is here, for example, that the staircase known from Cercei’s walk of shame is located.

The most important attractions of Dubrovnik await tourists within the Old Town. The city’s impressive main promenade, the Stradun, is about 300 meters long, and its beginning and end are marked by two fountains – the Great and the Little Well of Onofria. In the Old Town, you will find the beautiful Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which was built between 1671 and 1713 in Baroque style, as well as the Church of St Blaise, who is the city’s patron saint.

Majestic palaces are also things that amaze visitors. The first of these to mention is the 15th-century Rector’s Palace, which was the seat of the municipal government during the Republic of Ragusa, and now houses the cultural and historical department of the Dubrovnik Museum. The second place worth seeing is the 16th-century Sponza Palace, also known as the Divona. It once housed offices and institutions and now serves as the city archive. It is also a center for cultural events, especially important during the Dubrovnik Summer Festival.

Dubrovnik is a real paradise for lovers of medieval fortresses. Noteworthy are two fortifications lying outside the city walls. The first is the south-eastern Revelin fort, which today hosts concerts, exhibitions and theater performances. On the opposite side of the city, on the other hand, lies Lovrijenac fort, located on the rocky peninsula of the same name. In addition, within the city walls we can admire numerous gates and towers that make Dubrovnik a city that cannot be mistaken for any other.

Review of Free Walkative - Tours Gdansk
Excellent overview of Gdansk history

Oddly enough, the main town was the last in the various walking tours I have done with Walkative over two trips to Gdansk. There is very little overlap and this one really gives you a solid grounding in the history dating back four or five centuries in some cases. The guide (Macin I think - sorry!) did a wonderful job retelling some of the gore and much of the wonder that’s as old Gdansk. These guides do an amazing job!

Review of Free Walkative! - Tours Wroclaw
World War 2 & Jewish Wroclaw Walking Tour

We spent a pleasant two hours walking around Wroclaw, visiting significant historical sites to do with the Jewish community and the Second World War. Our guide Lukasz was very knowledgeable and informative and also very friendly. We learnt a lot in the time we spent with him on the tour and saw parts of the city that we wouldn’t have probably come across wandering on our own. I’d highly recommend this tour and would give Lukasz five stars for his knowledge and delivery of the subject matter! Thanks
